During the beginning stages of new development, it’s important to have a strong foundation. To help bring Deep Cypress Gardens to fruition, we have hired INsite Architecture, a local Cypress architecture studio founded by Antonio Flamenco in 2000. We connected with Chrystal Cole, a member of the INsite Team, to give you more information about Deep Cypress Gardens, her role in the project and what the INsite team is currently working on.
- What is your involvement in Deep Cypress Gardens?
“In the first phase of the project, INsite is working on a remodel of the current building on the Deep Cypress Gardens property that will become the Welcome Center as well as working and coordinating the Master Planning and development of the site features with the consultant team. I am directly involved in the documentation and design. In the past, I have helped create renderings for publications, assist in developing a site plan and future building program.”
- Is there a certain feature that you’re excited to see on the property?
“Creating a space for people to socialize and interact as a community is what I am most excited about. A green space that encourages people to linger, walk, enjoy and be connected with nature. Architecture combined with effective landscape architecture will give Deep Cypress Gardens a sense of place and belonging for those in the community. Having a great place to pick up coffee, listen to music, have events, eat dinner, or hang out with my children, family and friends are what I look forward to.”
- What do you like about working on this project?
“I love working on projects that help improve the quality of life. Deep Cypress Gardens shows a respect for nature and for the future of this community, which is vital in this fast paced world. We focus a lot on getting from A to B. Providing spaces that let us enjoy spending time with people we love surrounded by nature is just what the community needs. Deep Cypress Gardens is really a mixed-use development that offers people opportunity to learn, eat and work. I have worked on other community buildings, campus designs, event centers, and mixed use projects in the past, for example, the Boardwalk at Towne Lake is my most recent project of this scale, but nothing exactly like Deep Cypress Gardens. I am excited to be a part of something that is so connected and respectful of nature.”
- Is this a group project or are you in charge of something specific in regards to the development? If so, what is it?
“I am lucky enough to be working with a great team at INsite Architecture. My role for this project will be to help with the design, then to assist with the documentation of the design work and coordinate between consultants (engineers). I have been involved with this project since the very beginning planning stages and will continue to be involved until construction is complete.”
- What do you think will be your favorite part about working on Deep Cypress Gardens?
“The beginning stages have been a lot of fun. The excitement for what is to come is always a thrill, but I think my favorite part of any project is when it comes to fruition. I look forward to the day I can sit or stand on this property and see people interacting, sharing and enjoying the space. I am excited for that moment when I can proudly say I was a part of an amazing group of people that helped make this all a reality.”
